Address to Coordinates (Lat/Long Finder)
Convert any street address in the United States, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, or U.S. island territories into exact WGS84 latitude and longitude (DD, DMS, DDM, and UTM), standardized address, county, and city using the official U.S. Census Bureau Geocoder. You can also enter U.S. coordinates to see the city and county at that point.

How U.S. Street Address to Coordinate Geocoding Works
This address-to-coordinates tool converts any street address across the 50 U.S. states,
Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and U.S. island territories into exact WGS84 latitude and
longitude coordinates (in Decimal Degrees, DMS, DDM, and UTM) by querying the official
U.S. Census Bureau Geocoder (Public_AR_Current address benchmark paired with
the Current_Current TIGER/Line geography vintage). In addition to coordinates, every lookup
returns the standardized USPS/Census street address, current county and 5-digit FIPS code, and
incorporated city or Census Designated Place.
What happens Under the Hood: TIGER/Line Address-Range Interpolation
When you submit a street address, your browser sends the address in the body of an HTTPS
POST request to our stateless lookup endpoint, which queries the Census Bureau’s
Master Address File / Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (MAF/TIGER)
database:
- Street Segment & Parity Matching: The Geocoder identifies the matching road centerline segment in TIGER/Line, checks whether your house number is odd or even to select the correct side of the street, and interpolates the latitude and longitude proportionally between the block’s starting and ending address numbers.
- Jurisdiction Polygon Intersection: Those interpolated coordinates are intersected with current county, municipal, and 2020 ZIP Code Tabulation Area polygons so you can verify both the coordinates and the legal jurisdiction in one step.
- Reverse U.S. Coordinate Lookup: If you paste a U.S. latitude and longitude pair (such as
38.8977, -77.0365) into the search box instead of a street address, the tool automatically switches to a Census geography coordinate lookup and returns the state, county, city or township, and ZCTA covering that point.
Tips for Unmatched or New Construction Addresses
Because the U.S. Census Geocoder interpolates along official TIGER/Line road address ranges rather than commercial rooftop parcel databases, brand-new subdivisions, private rural lanes, or PO Box numbers may occasionally return no match. Always include the house number, street name, city, state, and 5-digit ZIP Code; if a new street is not yet in TIGER/Line, open the Latitude and Longitude Finder to search the ZIP Code and click the exact lot on the map.
