What ZIP Code Am I In?

Tap Use my location to see the Census ZIP Code Tabulation Area (ZCTA) for where you are right now, or enter a street address to get its matched USPS delivery ZIP Code and county coverage.

How to Check Your Current 5-Digit ZIP Code or ZCTA

This tool finds the 5-digit ZIP Code area for your current GPS location or U.S. street address by combining the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2020 ZIP Code Tabulation Area (ZCTA) boundary service (tigerWMS_Current Layer 2) with the Census Bureau’s address-range geocoder. When you use browser GPS or paste latitude and longitude coordinates, we query the intersecting ZCTA polygon and draw its boundary on the map; when you enter a street address, we first extract the matched U.S. Postal Service (USPS) 5-digit ZIP Code from the street segment and also display its corresponding ZCTA polygon and county shares.

Why GPS ZIP Code Areas Differ from USPS Delivery Routes

Five-digit ZIP Codes were created by the U.S. Postal Service in 1963 to route mail along carrier delivery paths, post office boxes, and high-volume facilities—not to divide land into closed geographic polygons. To map ZIP Code statistics, the U.S. Census Bureau builds ZIP Code Tabulation Areas (ZCTAs) by assigning each census block to the most common USPS mailing ZIP Code among addresses in that block:

When to Verify Your Mailing ZIP Code

Whenever you need an exact 5-digit or 9-digit ZIP+4 code for shipping a package, credit card billing verification, or official correspondence, type your complete street address into the search box above or verify it directly with the U.S. Postal Service lookup link provided in the result card. You can also explore adjacent boundaries on the Interactive U.S. ZIP Code Boundary Map or check county overlap on ZIP Code to County Lookup.
